Languages - Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing

At Shamit, we commit to deliver outstanding learning experience for all students which aims to develop LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) skills to the highest level. We have high expectations for our students and aim to encourage all students to reach their potential in the essential communication skills of Speaking, Reading and Writing.

In Pre-Primary, our goal is to help children become ready to be independent readers by the age of five and to achieve this, we use broadly acclaimed international practices such as Jolly Phonics© from Jolly Learning Company, UK for teaching of the English language to young children. It is a fun and child centered approach of teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. Using a synthetic phonics approach, we teach children the five key skills for reading and writing like learning the letter sounds, letter formation, blending the sound, identifying the sounds in words and reading tricky words.

The curriculum from Grade 1 onwards offers a wide range of reading material. Students also have an opportunity to develop their Speaking skills through drama, debate and presentations. We aim to refine and develop the LSRW skills introduced at Pre-primary (Merriment) stage and help students become increasingly confident and accomplished in their reading, writing and speaking skills. We try to develop children’s listening skills through various techniques designed to extend children’s capacity to listen and talk, to share and question ideas and opinions respectfully. For developing reading skills, we have a comprehensive approach to teach reading which incorporates introduction to a variety of texts and also provides an access to high quality reading materials. We also aim to develop a high level of skill in writing and a secure understanding of how written language works.
