Discipline
- As a parent if you have any concerns on behavioral issues please discuss it with the class mentor / student counselor / Co – coordinator.
- Punctuality: It is of great importance in the school. Children are expected to be in school by 8.30 a.m. (Pre – primary to Grade VIII). Please ensure that your child is in school on time. In case your child is getting late beyond 5 minutes, you need to get consent from the Principal before dropping in your child at school.
- Obedience: Towards instructions given by teachers and student leaders is essential.
- Politeness, Manners, Truthfulness and Respect: Towards each other and staff members in expected at all times.
- Any form of misuse of school property will be considered misbehavior. A student will be charged an appropriate fine for the damage caused.
- Cheating: In any form in the tests and examination is a major offence which will initiate disciplinary action.
- Note: However, in the event of a serious breach of discipline by a student, we may be forced to take disciplinary action against him/her. All such matters will be brought to the attention of the Principal, who will constitute to look into all aspects of the issues and provide a fair hearing to all concerned.
- Appropriate disciplinary action as warranted on facts and merit of the case may be initiated under the following conditions.
- Absence without sanctioned leave.
- Behavior problems, which persist despite the school’s efforts
- Moral breach attitude and persistent negligence of school programs, regulations and work by the pupil
- Non – cooperation of parents in the welfare of the child
- Using foul language
- Misbehavior in the bus
- Not speaking in English during school hours
- Not carrying school diary every day
- Improper uniform / untidiness despite multiple warnings.
Attendance
- It is important that all children maintain a minimum attendance record of 75%.
- Please ensure that in case of absence from school a leave application is submitted and a record is made in the school diary.
- If a student is absent from school for more than 30 days without and information to the school office, readmission will have to be sought.
- There is no provision of half day leave. Student who is unwell should not be sent to school even on assessment days. Average marks will be awarded to the cild for the assessment taken on that particular day.
- Vacation dates should be strictly adhered to and students should return to school on time. Absence on such days will attract strict disciplinary action.
- Parents must call and inform the Office between 8.30 – 9.00 a.m. if their child is absent due to illness.
- Application for long leave should be addressed to the Principal at least 3 days before the mentioned dates.
- Long Leave Of Absence: If a child is absent from school due to maternal confinement of her mother then the Principal and Class Mentor must be informed in writing that the child will not be attending the school for a stated period.
Note
- Child’s absence without a leave application – zero tolerance level.
- Prior leave application should be sent.
- In case of an emergency, telecommunication should be given to the school via the landline.
- A leave should be followed by a written application in his / her diary.
- Students should not come to school in possession of anything which may pose a danger to themselves or others. Specifically, knives and other weapons, or imitation weapons, are forbidden.
- Students who miss school for extended periods, (whether due to illness of other reasons), can request list of assignments and recommended work to make re –entry as smooth as possible. However, a lot of what happens in the school is work which cannot be made up later. The interaction with the teacher, other students, and doing hands on activities, etc. cannot be recreated. Mentors are NOT expected to create extensive individual programs for students who miss school for long periods. Early Dismissal
- As a policy the school does not allow parents to take their child from school during school hours.
- In case there is a function at home please do not send the child.
- The child may be allowed on a special request (an emergency) but such requests will be entertained only when the dispersal is to happen more than an hour later.
- It should not happen more than 3 times in a year.
- Parents must bring a written request for the same.
- Parents must fill the Early Exit Register / Form and get it signed by the Principal and only then mentor will allow their child to leave school early.
- If the child travels by the school bus, ensure that the transport in-charge is duly informed about taking the child early.
- Note: ONLY parents with proper identification will be allowed to take a child home during school hours.
Dress Code
- Students must be dressed appropriately for school activities and for the specific learning environment in neat, clean and modest clothing. All students must strictly adhere to the norms laid down with regard to dressing. During winters, School Sweater (For Pre-Primary) and Blazer for Primary & Secondary are compulsory.
- School uniform to be worn on two days.
- House uniform to be worn on four days.
- Uniform must be kept clean and should be washed and ironed.
- Shirts need to be tucked in neatly.
- Bloomers / shorts to be worn.
- Shoes to be polished regularly.
- Girls should tie 2 plaits with white rubber bands and white hair band.
- Children should cut nails, trim & oil hair regularly.
- No fancy bindis, earrings to be worn. A pair of simple ear rings, preferably suds, may be worn to school every day.
- All students are expected to wear their I-card daily.
Dangerous Items
- Students should not come to school in possession of anything which may pose a danger to themselves or others. Specifically, knives and other weapons, or imitation weapons, are forbidden.
Competitvie Exams
- The school reserves the right to participate in any competitive exams.
- Students are allowed to appear for any types of competitive exams at their own discretion.
- A notice is sent to the parents for seeking permission whether they are interested in a particular competitive exam.
- Competitive exams are not part of school examinations calendar (i.e. Olympiad exams, Abacus, N.T.S.E, M.T.S.E, Homibaba, etc.) We are holding these examinations to build the competitive spirit and provide exposure to national / international examinations and evaluation trends. The school will not be responsible for any way for the result of such exams, only guidance will be provided by mentors.
- Parents have consulted the concerned examination coordinator in case of any queries (i.e. regarding hall tickets, examination centre, books, etc.)
- The result of the above exams will be displayed on the school notice boards. Parents should not call the school for results.
Sports Beyond School Permises
- Sports and Games are an integral part of the school. Team games such as cricket, football, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, etc. and individual sport such badminton, table tennis and lawn tennis, board games and athletic training are offered.
- The schools reserve the right to choose the interschool tournaments and competition that the students will participate in.
- On the basis of the performance of your ward, he /she will be selected by the particular game teacher for the particular game.
- When the ward is selected for the inter-school matches, the information will be shared with the parents through the circulars. You have to drop and collect your ward from the place mentioned. If the ward is willing to go on his own from the ground at the time of inter school matches he /she get a written permission from parents.
Electronics, Valuables etc
- During school activities, students should not use mobile phones, portable music devices, electronic games or other non-educational electronic devices except when this bas been agreed by the teacher in charge. The school cannot be held responsible for the loss of or damage to personal electronic equipment.
- Students are responsible for their belongings, and should not leave these unattended around or outside school. For safety reasons, any unattended belongings will be removed. Students are asked not to bring unnecessary valuables into school, if brought school will not be responsible for the loss. All of your child’s belongings should be labeled with his /her name. A Lost & Found material will be kept at he reception, and we also ask students and others who find valuable items to hand these to the reception. If your child loses an item, he / she should contact at the reception. At specific times during the school year any uncollected items are sent to a charitable organization. Unfortunately, unless items are deposited with the school office, the school is not responsible for the loss or theft of valuables.
- Students are not allowed to bring their own sporting equipments. In case they do so, it should be labeled appropriately and kept in the possession of the child throughout the day at their own risk.
Birthday Celebration
- Parents will be invited for their ward’s birthday celebration.
- The class teacher would inform parents about the celebration time, parents are requested to stick to the allotted time.
- During the birthday celebration only toffees will be distributed.
- Return gifts, chocolates, cakes are not welcome, these will be returned.
- Invitations to private birthday parties may be distributed at school only if all children in the class are invited.
- The school discourages special arrangements made by parents for parties at school during the day.
Field Trip
- The children may go for field trips in the local community. These field trips are considered a part of the daily program. During the school day, a teacher may take their class off-campus for curricular activities, and these are considered to be regular class time. During the field trips, children will be representatives of the school, so they are expected to abide by the school rules, follow appropriate standards of behavior and appearance and to demonstrate concern for the well being of others. In the beginning of the session, an Annual Permission form will be distributed where in parental permission for a child to leave the premises for neighborhood walks, visits to local parks, etc. would be taken. The permission will be valid for one academic year. Parents will be notified at least 48 hours in advance of field trips. At that time, parents will have the option to withdraw permission for any individual field trip by completing the field trip Opt-Out Notice. If a parent or guardian signs the Opt-Out Notice for a specific field trip, the annual field trip consent remains valid for all other field trips.
- On field trips where transportation is required, parents will be notified in advance as to the details of the scheduled field trip excursion. If a parent chooses not to sign this annual permission form, your child will not be taken for any field trips occurring within the school year.
Homework & Reporting
- Homework tasks may cover a broad variety of activities including reading, research, spelling, tables / number practice, maths, writing, etc. Homework is not given without prior teaching or explanation in class. We value homework as an opportunity for parents to work in partnership with the school and take an active role in their child’s learning. Parents are requested to encourage the child to provide feedback about the proceedings of his / her day at school. Home assignments must be taken seriously. Make sure to guide the child with adequate resources and with your time. Submission of HW at the right time is essential to inculcate the habit of time lines. Reminder note will be sent in diary and if there is no acknowledgment and same happens frequently then parents will be called to meet the Principal and to give reason in writing.
- Parents will get regular information about their children’s strengths, progress and achievements and will be informed about any gaps in their children’s progress and ways that they can help. Reports will focus on how well the child is progressing in terms of levels and becoming secure in their learning. Reports will include brief qualitative comments about planned learning across the curriculum areas and in different contexts.
- Parents are welcome at any time to discuss their child’s progress; it is best to make an appointment in advance.
Library & Computer Lab
- Library and Computer Lab are two significant assets of the school. Huge financial investments are made to make them most modern and up to date. The library is shared by students and staff members of Shamit School, thus all users are requested to behave responsibly and respectfully. The eating or chewing of any food or drink is not allowed; neither are unruly behavior and any actions which result in damage or injury. Students are expected to use them with great diligence and care.
- The school library is open to all students of the school. Each student will be given a borrower’s card on the basis of which he /she can borrow one book per week.
- Children have to return the book after one week. Incase of losing any library book, MRP cost + Rs 50/- will be charged as a fine for per book.
- No student is allowed to remove any pages from books or magazines.
- No student should put any mark with a pen or pencil on any library book. This spoils the beauty of the books and renders them unusable by others.
- When you are taking the school Leaving Certificate, you have to return all the library books.
- Students are not allowed to bring their personal books to the library.
- Students shall co-operate with the library and computer staff in maintaining order and discipline. Students shall take care not to lose damage or deface any of the materials, fixtures and equipment. Any loss or damage will have to be replaced or made good by the student concerned.
Health & Hygiene
- Please ensure that the child’s finger and toe nails are properly trimmed and there is no dirt underneath their nails.
- Make sure you child wears fresh clothes and socks daily.
- For Nursery, PP1 & PP2, parents should keep a spare clean set of clothes in their bag wrapped properly in polythene, to be used in an emergency in case the child soils it.
- Please help your child to manage her / his hair neatly so as not to make the child look disheveled.
- Girls to wear white headband or rubber bands and tie their hair neatly.
- Boys to keep well trimmed hair.
- Use of nail polish, perfumes, mehendi, fancy articles jewellery & other age – inappropriate things are not allowed in the school premises.
- If a child wears lenses support to her / his eyes, it is preferable for her / him not to wear contact lenses to school. Spectacles should be of material that would not cause injury to the child during outdoor activities.
- Send one handkerchief and a napkin every day.
Medical Policy
- In order for children to do their best at school they need to be healthy in both body and mind. If your child is unwell and feeling sick, we request you not to send them to school. Children must be fever-free for 24 hours, without medication before returning to school to avoid the chance of a relapse and their condition still being contagious.
- Please also keep your child home if:
- She / He has a cold or cough or both
- She / He has a persistent fever, even if it is low grade.
- She / He has vomited within a 24-hour period
- She / He is not restricted to the above symptoms
- If your child has a contagious illness as mumps or chickenpox, please keep them at home so that the spread of illness can be contained. In such cases, your child should only be returned to the school on the school on the attending doctor’s advice.
- Medical fitness certificate is mandatory.
- Please also let us know via a note in the school diary if your child is recovering from an illness and is unable to take part in Sports activities / lessons. A medical note must be provided if your child needs to miss sports activities / lessons for any extended period of time.
Medication:
- As a policy, the school shall not administer any drugs to the children. In case your child is under medication, please ensure that the child is properly guided to take his or her own medicine or provide every clear instruction to the class teacher to help the child with the medication.
Emergencies:
- A school is an active environment; when children become sick or get hurt during the school day, the school will provide first aid.
- Class teacher and other school personnel are prohibited to give over-the-counter medication or anti-biotic medicines.
- In case a medicine has to be administered, the teacher shall call the parents and seek their permission before doing so.
- If the child is unwell while at school, the parents at their discretion can collect and take him or her for medical treatment to a physician. In case of grave emergency on your behalf, we will admit your child to the nearest multi-specialist hospital.
Children with special needs:
- Parents whose children have any special needs are requested to inform the class teacher of the child’s need at the beginning of each academic year so that the child’s need can be handled appropriately in the medical form.
- Any changes in their medical conditions must also be communicated in wiring.
Withdrawals
- All applications of TCs will have to be submitted as a written request addressed to the Principal one month in advanced.
- The office will take 7 days to prepare the Tcs
- TC is issued on clearance of all School Dues.*
- In case of Mid-Term withdrawal, fees for that particular term must be cleared.
- The fees will be charged for the whole month (last date attended by the pupil) irrespective of the date of Student’s application for the TC
- Once the Transfer Certificate had been prepared and issued by the school and the students seek re-admission, it will be treated as a new admission. This will involve full payment of admission fee based in the fee at that time. However, if the TC has not been prepared, timely application for readmission will be granted on the Old Admission number.
- In case of a request for a duplicate copy of Transfer Certificate once issued, the parent / guardian should give written applications to the Principal / management stating why the duplicate is required and what happened to the original certificate already issued. In case if the Principal / Management is not satisfied with the adequacy of the reason, he / she may ask the parent/ Guardian to make an affidavit before the stipendiary magistrate. Every duplicate copy of TC shall be marked with the word “DUPLICATE” in red ink at the top. (According to Section 30 of the Secondary School Code)
Note
- According to Secondary School Code Section 29.1, the school is entitled to refuse the issuing of leaving certificate in case of non-payment of fee and / or other dues. According to Secondary School Code Section 29.1, the school is entitled to refuse the issuing of leaving certificate in case of rustication by the Principal or Management of the school under rule 34.
Assemblies
- The day begins with morning assembly. Group and class assemblies will be held every week. Each class takes a turn to organise and present an assembly during the year and garde levels work together with the music department for special assemblies. A value-based morning assembly emphasizes the school's secular approach and influences students to understand and enjoy India's rich heritage and culture. Our assemblies may also be used to celebrate special cultural events that are significant to an international student body. Recognising birthdays, celebrating festivals and welcoming new students are also a regualr part of our assemblies. Parents and friends are encouraged and always welcome to attend.
House & Student Council
- All students are assigned to a House Team and this team becomes their team for the duration of their time at Shamit School. A variety of fun activities/competitions, including the Annual Sports Day are planned for students to participate in as as member of a House Team. The students from grade 1 onwords are put into 3 houses which are as follows:-
- Fire (Red)
- Air (Yellow)
- Water (Blue)
- Inter-house activities are planned throughout the year to inclucate team spirit and healthy competition. Student leaders are chosen to lead the houses as a part of the student council. All faculty members have been allocated a House with which to identify, support and generally encourage all House-related activities.
- The Student Council is a way for our students to take action in the school, to introduce students to the formal meeting process and to develop responsibility and initiative. The Student Council comprises of elected representatives from each class from Grade V onwards. There is an elected executive; Head Boy, Head girl, Vice Head Boy, Vice Head Girl, House Captains & Vice Captains & Sports Captains & Vice Captains.
Fees
- Monthly fees must be paid by the 7th of each month through any medium of communication as directed by the school.
- The invoice will be give to the students on the 1st working day of every month.
- Fees to be directily paid in any one of the branches of our bank, as specified on the invoice. The parents must preserve the receipted copy of the bill carefully.
- School fees to be paid for 12 months.
- In the beginning of the year - Admission & Registration Fee (For New Admissions Only.), First Term Fee, Annual Fee and first month's tuition fees have to be paid.
- Fees for April and May to be cleared by 7th April.
- Fee once paid will not be refunded.
- If fees are not paid for 3 months, management is entitled to take discretionary action.
- If the admission is withdrawn in between the academic sessions, full month's fees will be charged for the last day attended by the pupil.
- One month notice is compulsory to withdraw admission.
- If fee is not paid by the aforesaid dates as pertaining to the schools, late fee will be with a fine of-
1. 100/- from 8th to 15th of every month
2. 200/- from 16th to 31st of every month
3. 500/- beyond month
- In case fee is upaid beyond 60 days of the due date and a suitable information regarding payment is not avilable with the Principal, the management shall be entitled to take action as deemed fit.
Transport
- The School provides transport to all students who wish to avail the servie.
- Each year a detailed plan will be worked out based on the new admissions in the school year. Bus stops are assigned to students from the Adminstration Office in the month of June / before the school reopens.
- The charges will be determined in consultation with the contractor. The bus fees are to be paid for 11 months (June to April). Once the student enlists for a bus, her / she may not withdraw without paying the fee for the duration of services used.
- Fees Once paid will not be refunded.
- Students will have to come to specified stops to board the bus.
For Parents :-
- In the interest of the safety and convenience of local residents, the school bus will not be sent inside colonies. Parents are requested to drop and pick their children from the nearest main road.
- Parents are requested not to ask for a change of route diversion, additional stops or relocation of stops. The list of the stop is prepared keeping in view the convenience and safety of all bus commuters and is always subject to change.
- Buses will not wait for the late comers. Please be at the bus stop 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled pick up and drop time. Parents will have to make their own arrangements to come to school if your woard misses the bus.
- Students should take care of their belongings, such as school bag, water bottle, raincoats, umbrella, sweater, etc. as the bus authorities will not be responsible for the loss of damage.
- Driver's contact number will not shared with the parents.
- Bus services facility is primarily for the students and teaching community and not for parents or outsiders.
- Bus attendants or driver will not give missed calls or calls to parents.
- It is important to carry pick up card to pick up the child from school or pick up point till garade 2. In the afternoon if there is no one to pick up the child at the stop around the drop time then we will be forced to bring the child back to school and then parents will have to come to school to pick the child.
- Parents / Students will not have any tansaction / altercation / physical flight / contact with the bus staff.
- Parent should not make a direct request to the driver / conductor for change in bus route.
- In case of change of stop / withdrawing of bus services, the parent has to submit a written request to he transport In-Charge at least one month in advance to work our the details of fees & change. The decision of management would be final & binding.
- The school reserves the right to forfeit bus facility if a pupil is involved in damage to the bus property. Besides, the damage done will have to be compensated by the pupil.
- Query related to be bus stops and timings should be discussed in the office. For any issues please call the Transport In-Charge or at the reception ONLY.
For Students :-
- Children should stand away from the main road till the bus arrives.
- All students should be seated immediately after boarding the buses.
- When the bus is in motion, students must not move around in the bus and no part of their body should be outside the bus.
- Student is allowed to eat only dry snacks in the bus.
- Student will be held responsible for any damage caused by negligence or damage.
- The bus teacher, student bus monitors and attendants are responsible for maintaining discipline in the buses.
- Although window bars have been provided in all buses, students are advised to take care and not lean out.
Cars & Public Transport :-
- If parents bring students to school by car, they are asked to follow the correct procedure whether parking or dropping off their children. If you have a driver, please advise to wait / park away from the school to allow priority to owner-drivers whenever possible. At no time are parents to leave their cars in the car park if they are not attending school on school business.
